The Boston Celtics won handedly over the Minnesota Timberwolves the other night. They are cruising, now as a number one seed in the eastern conference. The star duo, Jaylen and Jayson, had 31 and 34 points respectively. A great offensive outing. The defense, at this point, speaks for itself. Another lopsided score, and another tally in the win column. Yet, troubling times lay ahead, due to Robert Williams' in-game injury. He is a crucial part of the team. Out indefinitely with a meniscus tear, the Celtics are going to need a replacement. The timetable for his return range between several weeks to months. Payton Pritchard is a third year NBA player who was drafted by the Boston Celtics. He’s 6’1, 195 lbs, and full of energy. The 2020 Draft Prospect page on NBA.com for Pritchard has him at 6’2, 206 lbs. They list his strengths;  Confident ball handler, passer and shot maker. Creates space with hesitation dribbles and burst. Has deep shooting range and a quick release. Plays with poise and tenacity.   All of which have been ringing through, especially as of late. From when this article was being written (3/25/22), Pritchard has shot 58% from the three-point line in his last 5 games. He also had 2 games of perfect shooting. This season, he is shooting an elite 40% from beyond the arc. From the free-throw line, he is a perfect 100%. Clearly, the man can shoot lights out. If his offensive pace keeps up, he will carve out a nice role not only on the Boston Celtics, but the NBA as a whole, as an elite shooter who can give you plenty of buckets at any time. The hits just keep on giving. In this win against the Utah Jazz, both the starters and bench unit were playing as one. Both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both had 26 points. Robert Williams had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Payton Pritchard and Daniel Theis both had 11 points. Derrick White had 10, and Al Horford had 9. Marcus Smart had only 5 points, but a whopping 13 assists. A very even scoring night from the Boston Celtics. What was not even was the lopsided score at the end if the game. The Jazz were held under 100 points, at 97, and the Celtics scored 25 points. They won by a 28 point differential. This is becoming more and more common with this team. Marcus Smart and Robert Williams were both out from the Boston Celtics game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Marcus Smart missed the game due to a non-Covid related illness. Robert Williams missed the game due to right patella tendinopathy in his leg. This is the medical name for the more commonly known "jumper's knee". Fortunately, those who played were firing on all cylinders, yet again. Jayson Tatum had 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Grant Williams had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Al Horford led the team in assists, dishing 7 assists throughout the game. Again, the Boston Celtics win. This time, against the reigning MVP, again. Nikola Jokic found himself facing the impeccable defensive sets that coach Ime Udoka has created to put the Celtics in number one for every significant defensive measure. The Celtics have been beating teams who are supposed to be contenders. When does that finally mean that we are contenders as well? Although Stephen Curry was injured in a purely hustle play, the Golden State Warriors should have kept up with the Celtics. The Dubs beat the Celts last year, on December 17th, 2021. Just as they have shown, the Celtics are a team that has turned it all around. Let's all keep willing for it to continue. While the story at the beginning of the year was mainly about their defense, the Boston Celtics deserve some credit for the electrifying offense that they have recently been playing. They regularly create highlight worthy plays. More seriously, they are truly playing like a contending team. Blowing out teams on a regular basis, this team is one you will have to watch out for. They hold the number one defense rating, and are in the top 5 for offense rating since the new year. The Boston Celtics are the number one net team in the league.
